ANA MARÍA DEVIS
(Colombia, b. 1968)
Ana María Devis is a Colombian artist whose current process engages the actions of an archaeological laboratory to explore natural narratives. In developing new drawings within this framework, she generates new organisms. Working with the master printers at Colombian workshop Arte Dos Gráfico, established in 1975 by María Eugenio Niño and Luis Ángel Parra, she created Wisisare, a complex mixed media print. Utilizing lithography, serigraphy, embossing, and digital techniques Devis captured the wildlife of the wetlands of the department of Casanare in eastern Colombia, home to over 160 type of birds as well as a sanctuary and breeding program for turtles and crocodiles. Devis’s work has been exhibited in Colombia and the United States.
