ANDRÉS ARÍZAGA CORDERO
(Ecuador, b. 1978)

Andrés Arízaga Cordero a fine artist, printmaker, and Professor of Art at COCOA (College of Communication and Contemporary Art) at University of San Francisco of Quito (USFQ) in Ecuador. This color serigraph, Damned Dream, is from the series Profane Litany, which explores the transition from life to death and the way that humans repeat this existential journey in smaller ways, eluding death on a daily basis. Arízaga Cordero believes that contemporary humans are encouraged to devour popular culture and engage in constant consumerism in an effort to find meaning. He uses distorted and often grotesque figures to critique the way that dominant powers, particularly the United States, utilize mass media as a form of global cultural and economic control. Arízaga Cordero has exhibited throughout the United States, Ecuador, Hungary, Spain, Peru and Colombia.
