HERSON SAPONE
(Uruguay, b. 1985)

Herson Sapone is instructor of serigraphy at the School of Arts and Crafts Pedro Figari at the University of Labor of Uruguay (UTU), a public institution dedicated to scientific and technological training. He runs Gráfica a Pedal (Est. 2013), a mobile screen printing studio, with his partner, María José “Ajó” Lastreto. Using an upcycled cargo bike, Sapone organizes workshops and public actions throughout the city of Montevideo. The concept for this print, titled Nadie en el mundo es ilegal (No one on earth is illegal) was developed in collaboration with Sapone’s students at UTU in solidarity with migrants and refugees who recently have been the target of xenophobia that manifests itself in discrimination, criminalization and detention throughout the world.
