HUMBERTO SAENZ
(United States)
Humberto Saenz is Assistant Professor of Art in the departments of Printmaking and Interdisciplinary Art at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His body of work addresses immigration issues, specifically as they have affected Mexican immigrant communities along the border. In İLa carambola está canon!, Saenz depicts two children ostensibly at play in an environment that is barren and seemingly dangerous. It is meant to symbolize the challenges that face immigrant children as they navigate not just the US justice system, but also struggle between their heritage and the new culture that faces them on this side of the border. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in Mexico as well as in Japan, Germany, Portugal, Canada, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Taiwan, Argentina, and Finland.
