ISABEL CAUAS
(Chile, b. 1966)

Isabel Cauas is President of Corporación Cultural Taller 99 (Cultural Corporation Workshop 99, Est. 1956), Chile’s longest running print workshop, where she has taught lithography since 1988. Her works incorporate windows into imaginary ‘micro worlds’ populated with elements like trees and cliffs. In Across, which combines the intaglio processes of dry point, aquatint, and etching, she uses the negative space to frame a distant landscape, allowing the viewer to project their own vision and understanding of nature via the image’s unrefined and minimal lines. Cauas has exhibited her prints in Chile, the United States, Belgium, France, Brazil, China, Italy, and Argentina.
