JORGE CRESPO
(Costa Rica, b. 1957)

Jorge Crespo Berdicio is a Costa Rican painter and printmaker and founder of Taller Bastidor Solitario (Solitary Frame Workshop, Est. 1996). His work addresses the concept of migration in a literal as well as philosophical sense. Visionarios, an intaglio work that incorporates mezzotint and etching, reflects upon migration as a voyage not necessarily away or toward a physical ‘homeland’ but as a journey of self-discovery that can result in feelings of loss, dislocation, and denaturalization. Crespo’s work has been exhibited in Costa Rica, the United States, Spain, Perú, Mexico and Bolivia.
