LIZ COHEN
(United States, b. 1973)

Liz Cohen is a Colombian-American photographer and performance artist and Associate Professor of Art at Arizona State University. For over a decade Cohen has examined issues of migration, gender, and hybridity via low-rider culture, a subculture through which urban Chicanxs built car-centered rituals and images in resistance to cultural assimilation. Love Dazza xxo is a lithograph featuring photographs of Dazza del Rio, a Peruvian-American model and lowrider icon. In 2015, Lowrider magazine announced that it would cease a decades-long practice of featuring bikini models on its cover, a tradition central to its aesthetic appeal. This lithograph serves as documentation of Cohen’s partnership with Dazza and homage to the contributions of low-rider models to this Chicanx tradition. Cohen’s work has been exhibited in Mexico as well as throughout the United States and in Europe.
