The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) is proud to announce a new project led by our curatorial department: The Wave, MOLAA’s 1st Exhibition Fund Auction, 2012. The Wave will take place within the context of our 2012 Milonga Gala on May 12, with the purpose of supporting MOLAA’s Exhibition Fund for this year.
MOLAA is the only Museum dedicated to Latin American art in the United States and our mission is to foster intercultural dialogue and promote the 20th and 21st century art of the region, through the production of important historical and contemporary art exhibitions that expand the understanding of art in Latin America. This has prompted us to develop a new concept for the MOLAA Auction that follows our mission, and the curatorial vision, of presenting as complete a representation of the most challenging works by the most significant artists from Latin America.
The Wave, MOLAA’s 1st Exhibition Fund Auction, 2012, includes 25 artworks representing some of the most engaging contemporary art from Latin America today, featuring various media such as painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture, video art and mixed media.
The works that will be up for bid are by artists involved with MOLAA through our current exhibitions, including Esteban Lisa, Magdalena Fernández and Marco Maggi. Other artists are involved through past and future exhibitions, including Aníbal Catalán, Atelier Morales, Johanna Calle, Eugenia Calvo, Emilio Chapela, Marta Chilindrón, Gabriel de la Mora, Danilo Dueñas, Darío Escobar, Jaime Gili, Thomas Glassford, Federico Herrero, Pepe López, Leo Matiz, Priscilla Monge, Rubén Ortiz-Torres, Liliana Porter, Luis Roldán, Esterio Segura and Cinthya Soto; emphasizing the link between this new auction and our curatorial vision.
The exhibition opens to the public on Wednesday May 2 and a private cocktail reception will take place on Thursday, May 3 from 7:00-9:00pm.
All proceeds from this auction will go towards the exhibitions program at MOLAA for 2012:

Admission to The Wave is included for all Gala ticket holders. Those interested in only attending The Wave may purchase tickets separately, at $100 per person, which will include complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
