Wednesday, October 30th | 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Free and open to participants ages 10 and up!
Join Los Angeles based artist Rosalie López in constructing a Día de los muertos altar! Participants should bring a picture, multiple printed copies, or a digital file of a loved one. The images will be transformed into paper flowers used to build an altar in the MOLAA Lobby.
This is a drop-in workshop and all are welcome to participate!
The Virtual Altar Project (VAP), an interactive installation by artist Rosalie López, uses portraiture and ofrenda-making to honor and share community stories. Participants bring images of loved ones to a workshop and share family stories as they transform the pictures into flower petals. The petals are constructed into flowers and, combined with contributions from past participants, form a large scale sculptural wall arrangement. The queridos (both living and passed on) are documented and virtually archived on social media, using the hashtag #VirtualAltarProject.
MOLAA will display the Virtual Altar Project from Wednesday, October 23rd through Sunday, November 10th during regular museum business hours.
