Jorge Albertella (Argentina, b. 1946)
Jorge Albertella is a visual artist interested in the expansive nature of mixed media. He uses steel, wood, paint and other elements to create emblematic and geometrically-based work.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mr. Albertella spent his early life studying painting and drawing. As a young man, he traveled to New York and then Los Angeles, where he received a PhD in Psychology from the University of Southern California. After maintaining a successful practice, he then pursued a career in theatre, working as a playwright, producer, director, choreographer and set designer (in 2003 he won and award for best Set Design of he play THE TENTH MAN by Paddy Chafyesky.) He also wrote eight published novels and several award-winning plays, as well as founded the Los Angeles Jewish Theatre of Hollywood.
He became known for his eclectic career, rigorous work schedule and a constant pursuit and support of fine arts. However he never abandoned his original love of painting, exhibiting his work in Los Angeles while continuing his career in other fields.
In 2005, Mr. Albertella suffered a heart attack, which led him to leave the world of theatre and return to his original passion, painting. He currently shows his work in Los Angeles, and his paintings are also exhibited throughout the United States as well as internationally. In addition to numerous awards as a playwright and novelist, he is a former member of Partners of the Americas, an organization that develops cultural programs in Latin America and has been a member of the Grant Approval Committee of the Los Angeles County Cultural Affairs.
Jorge Albertella lives and maintains a studio in Palos Verdes, California.
