MOLAA’s Permanent Collection / Selections
The collection of a museum represents much more than a set of artistic works selected, acquired, donated, and organized in a specific time and place. An institutional collection is, above all and beyond everything, the manifestation of a vision. A collective, dynamic vision that transcends physical and symbolic boundaries, creating multiple narratives and interpretations of the art that surrounds us and represents us. It is the realization of a perspective on the world, culture, and society throughout history. It is also the projection of an ideology about the future.
MOLAA’s permanent collection is recognized for its scope and the caliber of its artists. With over 1,300 works of art, it represents more than 24 countries from the Americas and Latino artists residing in the United States, expressed through various media, styles, and eras, including painting, sculpture, textiles, works on paper, video, and photography. This living collection, guided by a long-term acquisition plan, is dedicated to engaging with the contemporary art community and deepening its exploration of diversity and cultural representation.
The extensive guide to the selections of MOLAA’s Permanent Collection presented here speaks about who we are but also about who we want to be. It speaks about a journey undertaken and allows us to glimpse our aspiration to be one of the most relevant, diverse, and inclusive expressions of Latin American and Latino modern and contemporary art in the United States, always in tune and committed to our time.
