Esau Andrade (México, b. 1963)

Born in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico in 1963, Esau Andrade comes from a folk art background family; his mother, Guadalupe Valencia, and brother, Raymundo Andrade, are folk artists. Although largely self-taught, he attended La Escuela de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Guadalajara (School of Fine Arts at the Gudalajara University). He has long studied the work of other Mexican masters such as Diego Rivera and Rufino Tamayo in whose footsteps he follows. The lush color and schematic composition in his paintings show his connections to folk art while the depiction of fantastic elements such as flying angels, link his style to magic realism.
