MOLAA DOCENT GUILD
MOLAA Docents dedicate two Monday afternoons a month to their educational development of Latin American and Latino art, artists and artistic influences. They plan and prepare a 50-minute tour for school children, teens and adults for each new exhibition.
The Docent Guild sponsors the bi-monthly Focus on Art which features one artist from our current exhibitions. They are MOLAA members who participate in exhibitions openings, fundraisers, special events and educational festivals.
MOLAA docents must go through a year-long training process which begins with a 9-week, training course given jointly by the MOLAA's Curatorial staff and Docent Guild veteran members. The study includes shadowing other docents, preparing their own tours with themes supplied by the Educational Department, a critical analysis of their tour style and content, and concludes with a docent prepared to give a meaningful and interactive tour to MOLAA visitors.
Docents are required to give two tours per month, meet two Mondays each month and come to exhibition walkthroughs and Member's Openings. They are encouraged to study Latin American and Latino art, history and culture, both in relation to MOLAA's exhibitions and as general knowledge. They also participate in MOLAA's cultural and educational events and the Docent Guild's social networking.
Docents receive 20% discount at the MOLAA gift store and earn store vouchers for every six tours given. In addition, they have access to the museum's library and MOLAA's own publications and catalogs. They are first to receive training and guided tours of the new exhibitions by artists and curators.
