1 Point Perspective
Video Tutorial: 1 Point Perspective
In this episode of #LearnWithMOLAA, we are covering one point perspective! What is one point perspective? It's a drawing method that shows how objects appear to get smaller as they converge towards a single ‘vanishing point’ on the horizon line. It is a way of drawing objects upon a flat piece of paper to look three-dimensional and realistic.
Horizon Line: The horizon is the line that separates the earth from the sky. But in many places, the true horizon cannot be seen as there are trees, buildings, mountains, and so forth.
Vanishing Point: The point in a perspective drawing where lines that either parallel to each other or are not parallel to the main subject of the painting come together. At this point, the two parallel lines seem to converge.
Materials needed: - Paper - Pencil - Ruler - Marker - Eraser
Here's how to create your own 1 point perspective drawing.
1. Draw a horizon line - a straight line running left to right across your paper.
2. Draw 1 vanishing point anywhere on the horizon.
3. Draw a square above your horizon line
4. Use your ruler and pencil to connect the corners of the square to your vanishing point. These lines are called leading lines.
5. Let's connect your leading lines by drawing a perpendicular line to your square
6. Trace your connections and erase your pencil lines!
