Educational Video: Cempasuchil Flower Meaning
Have you ever wondered what is the meaning behind placing a Cempasúchil flower on the ofrenda?
Cempasúchil, or marigolds, are an integral part of the ofrenda (or altar) we build each year on the Day of the Dead to honor our loved ones who have passed away. The name, cempasúchil, comes from the Nahuatl “cempohualxochitl;” with the word “cempohual” meaning “twenty,” or many, and “xochitl,” which means flower. According to tradition, it is the lovely fragrance of the brightly colored cempasúchil that helps to guide the spirits of our ancestors back to us.
