Vegetable Printmaking
Video Tutorial: vegetable printmaking
Looking for a fun way to practice printmaking with objects you can find at home? Follow along as we practice making prints with vegetables!
Here are the materials you'll need: · Printing Ink (Paint or fabric paint can also be used) · Paintbrush · Veggies! (fruits can be used, but keep in mind it will not print as easily) · Paper (Cloth can also be used!) · Optional: Something to scoop up ink!
Here are the steps you'll take to do your own printmaking with vegetables.
Step 1: Cut some vegetables in half! You can play with the cut that you make, include texture (or don’t), and play with shapes. Fruits can be used too, but they’re more difficult to print with due to fruit juice.
Step 2: Scoop up some Ink/Paint! You can use your favorite colors or mix some new ones! Experiment with the colors you use, try gradients, and experiment as much as you like!
Step 3: Use the paintbrush to apply ink/paint on vegetables! A little ink goes a long way.
Step 4: Press your inked vegetable on the surface of your paper. Make sure you press down hard on the vegetable. The longer you push down, the more it can affect how your print will look!
Step 5: Try different vegetables or fruit as you go! You can use it to make more prints or play with your design.
Step 6: Let your new masterpiece dry overnight!
Tip: You can play around with how hard you press down and for how long and watch how different each print will be
