The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) announces the opening of RED, RED, RED, Geography of a Scar, an international exhibition dedicated to women artists, organized in collaboration with MIA Art Collection and curated by guest curator Sebastián Strenger. The exhibition brings together unique works by artists from around the world and explores the color red as a powerful visual, emotional, and symbolic thread connecting women artists.

The exhibition opens to the public on Sunday, October 4, 2026, following a special VIP presentation on Saturday, October 3, during the 2026 MOLAA Gala & Auction: 30 Years of Gratitude, celebrating the Museum’s 30th anniversary.

RED RED RED, Geography of a Scar will remain on view through February 21, 2027, in MOLAA’s A. Angarita Family Gallery.

Founded by philanthropist and collector Alejandra Castro Rioseco, MIA Art Collection is an international private nonprofit organization dedicated entirely to collecting the work of women artists, helping address the longstanding inequality between male and female artists in the art world and creating a global network of support for women artists. Its collection encompasses more than 900 works from more than 35 countries.

RED RED RED, Geography of a Scar represents an important milestone for MIA Art Collection as its first international exhibition presented in a museum, and continues its growing collaboration with MOLAA, building on the success of their joint 2025 exhibition in the United Arab Emirates. Featuring approximately 40 women artists from 20 countries, the exhibition examines red through abstraction and figuration and explores its many associations—from passion, love, and attraction to power, resistance, danger, violence, and freedom. Painting, sculpture, video, textiles, and installations create a dialogue across generations and geographic regions while highlighting the historical barriers women artists have faced in achieving recognition and equality in the art world. The exhibition invites audiences to reflect on the realities and experiences of women artists.

For Alejandra Castro Rioseco and her ongoing mission to increase the visibility of women in the arts, collaboration with museums is essential to strengthening and advancing the careers of women artists.

The exhibition builds upon works and ideas from previous MIA Art Collection projects and exhibitions while expanding beyond the collection itself. Invited private collectors are contributing additional artworks that resonate with the exhibition’s themes, creating a broader platform centered on visibility, collaboration, and support for women artists.
