MOLAA Members Book Club: September

  • Museum of Latin American Art 628 Alamitos Avenue Long Beach, CA, 90802 United States (map)

Join us for the September MOLAA Members Book Club meeting! Our book of the month is My AfroRican State of Soul: A Journey of Identidad, Struggle, Love & Faith by Lucas Rivera. Light refreshments will be served.   The book can be bought online or in-person at the MOLAA store!

About the book: My AfroRican State of Soul is a blend of narrative nonfiction and poetry that chronicles Lucas Rivera’s journey toward intergenerational healing. This work speaks to budding young creatives and OG hip-hop heads who remember the dawn of an artistic era. Inspired by the culturally dynamic tradition of Afro-Puerto Rican poets such as Piri Thomas and Pedro Peitri, author Lucas Rivera draws upon their unfiltered approach in this decades-spanning body of work while also drawing from the emerging tradition of contemporary poetry and lyricism.

***Winner of the Literary Titan Book Award 2024
