PRIDE Performance: Celebrating Pauline Oliveros!

Join us for a very special performance and art workshop in partnership with the Long Beach Opera celebrating the life and work Mexican-American queer post-war composer, Pauline Oliveros. A pioneer of experimental and electronic music who challenged societal hierarchical and patriarchal structures through her music, Pauline transformed transformed the very act of listening, encouraging musicians, and non-musicians alike, to engage with sound and each other with empathy and mutual respect. Free to families and MOLAA members. Enjoy the performance in the garden, and stay for the art workshops and food. Food and drink available for purchase.

We invite you to join us for an experimental abstract painting workshop inspired by the tempera paintings of artist Marianela de La Hoz, featured in Ironias del Sur: From the MOLAA Permanent Collection. New Date! Come celebrate the African influence on Latin American in this hands-on art making community workshop!

In this 75-minute program, participants will discuss the significance of sustainable living practices in the Garifuna community and will create their own miniature cardboard home that represents the architecture from their homeland or local neighborhood. All materials are provided!

The miniature homes created in this workshop will be featured in our Miniature MOLAA Village presentation at the 2025 AfroLatinx Festival. This program will be led by Calvin Williams and community elder Bill Flores of the Garifuna Museum of Los Angeles.

Rooted in the first experiments in 1973 to the results of the use of Deep Learning, in a body practice anchored in the technology of each era, Analivia Cordeiro and computer scientist Nilton Lobo lead this dance and movement workshop in which participants are guided through movement exercises and created original choreographies inspired by the relationships between the body, movement, visual and audiovisual art, and media technology.
