Join us Sunday afternoon to explore the work of prolific Chicana artist Yolanda Gonzalez and her focus on the intimate relationship between art and life through her paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and prints. This panel promises to be an engaging discussion with artist Yolanda Gonzalez and her long-time muse, Marissa Gomez. Joining them will be Art Historian, Dianna Marisol Santillano; and Long-time patron Joan Agajanian Quinn; panel moderated by Independent Curator, Rio Diaz.  

Join us for an engaging panel called “Telling Our Stories: Sharing lived experience as a form of healing and imagining a more just future,” a panel dedicated to individuals sharing their lived experience with different racial, gender, and sexuality identities, led by Christina A. (she/they), a lecturer of Ethnic Studies at CSU Stanislaus with a BA in Chicana/o Studies and Psychology from CSU Fullerton and an MA in Sociology from UC Merced.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated throughout Latin America in various ways. In Guatemala, it is called El día del Cariño and celebrates not only romantic love, but also love for friends and family. Join us as we craft mixed media valentines inspired by this special day for the ones we love! 

Join us as we learn how to create volume in forms through the exploration of different oil pastel techniques. Inspired by the voluptuous forms and unique style used by the Master Fernando Botero. All materials will be provided. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your spot will be awarded to someone else. 

Members of the LBIRC Community are invited to join us in our Art Studio for an afternoon of artistic discovery. Participants will create their own graphic works of art by exploring the history of screen printing as a tool for advocacy and artistic expression. This bilingual workshop is in collaboration with the Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition (LBIRC).

This bilingual workshop is in collaboration with the Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition.

Children will explore the art of self-expression using mirrors, watercolors, ink, and the art of collage. This unique learning experience places an emphasis on having fun while exploring techniques for creating self-portraits inspired by artist and farmworker, Narsiso Martinez.

Join us for an evening of fun, film, and music with “West Side Story: David Alvarez and the making of a cross-cultural musical.” This event begins at 5PM with an unveiling and short presentation on select costumes from the 2021 film, directed by Steven Spielberg. At 6PM, MOLAA’s Education department will host a Q&A with actor David Alvarez (“Bernardo”). An indoor screening of the film will start at 6:30PM and has a run time of 2 hours and 36 minutes.
